NTT DoCoMo to Collaborate with SingTel Mobile for W-CDMA 3G Mobile Multimedia Services


NTT DoCoMo, Inc. announced today an agreement with Singapore Telecom Mobile Pte Ltd (SingTel Mobile) to collaborate in relation to the field of 3G mobile multimedia services based on W-CDMA technology.

Through technical exchange and joint studies, the companies also aim to realize interconnection and roaming between NTT DoCoMo's existing 3G network and the 3G network to be built in Singapore by SingTel Mobile, as well as to realize common 3G mobile multimedia services. They will also jointly study highly advanced wireless LAN service offerings, for example, IP connection and convergence with 3G mobile services.

"We believe this partnership will help us expand W-CDMA-based 3G mobile multimedia services in Asia.. This joint initiative will enable DoCoMo and SingTel Mobile to offer our respective customers value-added mobile multimedia services."

Mr. Lucas Chow, Chief Executive Officer of SingTel Mobile and Executive Vice President (Consumer Business) of SingTel, hailed the signing of the agreement as a landmark for regional mobile communications. The collaboration will help us take a step towards addressing some of the key concerns regarding 3G such as evolving common standards, roaming issues and compatibility of handsets.
