Option N.V., the wireless technology company, today announced that Drei, Hutchison 3G Austria or "3" is the first mobile operator in Austria to offer the Option GlobeSurfer ICON 7.2 HSDPA. Drei or “3" is celebrating the commercial release of the "3" branded USB wireless broadband modem with a compelling launch promotion. Customers in Austria signing up for a 24 month subscription (€19 per month) will be able to purchase the USB modem for only 3 euros, including a monthly 1.5 Gb data package.
Customized to the exacting requirements of the operator, the GlobeSurfer ICON 7.2 HSDPA offers Drei customers in Austria easy wireless broadband access. Option’s Zero-CD technology, which allows applications, manuals and drivers to be downloaded and installed automatically when the device is first connected to a computer, makes the GlobeSurfer ICON 7.2 HSDPA truly plug-and-play . The product, which offers impressive downlink rates of up to 7.2 Mbps, joins Option's widely acclaimed GT MAX data card in the “3” Austria portfolio.
Hutchison 3G Austria is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hutchison Whampoa Limited (“HWL”). Based in Hong Kong, HWL was granted a license to operate third generation mobile services in Austria in November 2000. In May 2003, Hutchison 3G Austria launched the first purely mobile multimedia offering in the Austrian market under the brand “3”. With 426,000 customers (as of March 2007), "3" leads the Austrian 3G market.
