Vodafone K.K. announces today that from 27 October 2005 it will expand global roaming service areas by 5 countries, which will allow customers to make voice calls in 128 countries and regions with the same Vodafone K.K. 3G handset*1 that they use in Japan. With this expansion, voice roaming will be available to Vodafone K.K. customers traveling to Uruguay, Oman, the Dominican Republic, East Timor and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
To further improve customer convenience, Vodafone K.K. is progressively increasing the number of roaming partners in countries and regions that support global roaming. As of 27 October, Vodafone K.K. will have tied up with multiple operators in 54 of the 128 countries and regions where voice roaming is already available, enabling customers to roam on a total of 177 networks.
In addition, on 15 October Vodafone K.K. launched the Vodafone 903T handset, the world's first*2 mobile handset capable of GPS navigation both in Japan and overseas. Presently, customers can use this serviec to check their current location, search for surrounding area information and find best routes to destinations in 6 countries and regions, including the UK, Netherlands, Spain, Canary Islands, Germany and Hong Kong.
Vodafone K.K. will continue to work on expanding roaming service areas to offer event richer global communication.
