3, the UK's first video mobile network, today announces a partnership with Sony BMG Music Entertainment UK, the major record label, to supply full-length audio tracks directly to more than 3 million customers on the 3 network.
3's customers will be able to access all the artists for which Sony BMG UK has mobile rights for such as Destiny's Child, Britney Spears, Usher, Charlotte Church and Oasis. The agreement will also enable customers to enjoy new releases from Sony BMG UK's labels as well as back catalogue material.
Sony BMG represents more than 1000 artists worldwide and sold over 90 million albums globally last year. These songs, along with current new releases from Jamiroquai, Jessica Simpson and Foo Fighters will also be available on 3, in addition to the entire Sony BMG UK catalogue.
This agreement further enhances 3's music offer which includes full-length videos from Sony BMG, audio tracks from EMI Music UK and tracks and videos from independent label artists through VidZone.
3 was the first mobile network to launch full-length music videos over mobile in August 2004 and has since recorded a number of firsts including a world first when Robbie Williams launched his single "Misunderstood" on the 3 network ahead of TV and radio. Natasha Bedingfield and Rooster, both Sony BMG artists, were first to stream their concerts live over video mobiles to 3 customers.
Bob Fuller, CEO, 3 UK, said: "Music is one of our most popular services and through this agreement our customers can enjoy the very latest audio tracks from Sony BMGs top artists. Our knowledge and experience in the 3G mobile market means that we're able to develop close partnerships with content providers such as Sony and EMI. Our customers are telling us that they want to be able to download music tracks directly to their phones and our focus now is on extending the choice that we provide."
Clive Rich, Head of the Futures Division, Sony BMG Music Entertainment UK, comments: "We're delighted to bring Sony BMG Music UK's audio catalogue to 3. 3 is leading the way in creating a comprehensive mobile music service, and we are really excited to be giving their 3 million customers access to our artists." |
