Customers of leading Portuguese mobile operator TMN now have a chance to "share the moment" with the person they are talking to as TMN launches commercial video sharing service in Portugal. The service is enabled by the Nokia IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) implemented in TMN's core network infrastructure, and TMN customers are able to enjoy video sharing with the Nokia 6680 3G imaging smartphone, the world's first handset integrating this innovative functionality.

Video sharing is a multimedia service that allows 3G mobile terminal users to share a live camera view while speaking on the mobile. Video sharing is based on standardized 3GPP and IETF technologies and it utilizes general IMS or IETF SIP infrastructure.

"This is an important milestone and we are very pleased to be providing TMN the means to offer their customers this innovative service that will enrich their everyday communication," said Markku Verkama, General Manager, Networks, Nokia. "IP multimedia is becoming mainstream and Nokia is strongly driving the openness of IP-based concepts such as video sharing with the target to enable operators to offer a diversity of services independent of the network or handset."

Nokia provides a complete, end-to-end solution for IMS-based multimedia, including the Nokia IP Multimedia Subsystem solution with open IMS Service Control (ISC) interface towards application servers and Nokia 6680, a Series 60 device supporting video sharing. Nokia has 26 IMS projects ongoing with mobile and fixed operators globally.
