Vodafone Germany already has more than half a million 3G customers in Germany. The new Mobile TV service, with its fifteen channels, is the most popular application. New 3G customers are also frequent users of the mobile music and videotelephony services. Vodafone is presenting these and further developments in the German market at an analyst conference today in Dsseldorf.
Only six months after the launch of 3G phones in the mass market, the number of 3G customers at Vodafone has grown to over half a million. 410,000 of these use one of the new 3G phones and 120,000 surf on the Internet with 3G and notebook. The most popular service among 3G phone customers is Mobile TV. Around 100,000 3G users watched TV on their mobile phones in June, which means a total of 1.8 million mobile phone TV minutes this month alone. Mobile music is another popular service with 3G customers. More than 100,000 songs are currently downloaded every month and the number is growing. The Vodafone music library includes a total of 500,000 songs in twelve different categories. There are now 10 different 3G mobile phones in all price categories to choose from.
Vodafone 3G network coverage now extends to 1200 towns and cities in Germany, which corresponds to around 60 percent of the population. At the end of March 2006, 70 percent of the population will have access to Vodafone's 3G services. There are also plans to launch the next generation of 3G, HSDPA, in 2006. HSDPA enables downlink speeds of up to 2 Mbit/s.
The KPI figures for the quarter April to June 2005 will be published by the Vodafone Group and Vodafone Germany on 25 July. |
