Now Everyone can use it: Vodafone Introduces UMTS for Pre-Paid Customers

www.vodafone.com

Vodafone is the first German network operator to offer UMTS services to pre-paid customers. New customers who opt for an UMTS phone automatically get the 'Vodafone Happy Live! UMTS for CallYa' tariff at the standard CallYa rates. The flat rate of only EUR 5 a month covers many different 'UMTS-powered' multimedia services, including free, unlimited viewing of Vodafone Mobile TV highlights on the mobile phone. Vodafone will be making a very special offer to mark the launch of the new UMTS tariff option for pre-paid customers: they only pay EUR 149.50 for a CallYa SIM card with ten euros' worth of free calls in conjunction with the Motorola C980 Vodafone live! mobile phone. What's more, the 'Vodafone Happy Live! UMTS for CallYa' tariff option won't cost them a cent for the first three months. Further UMTS phones for pre-paid customers will be available in the Vodafone shops from mid-September onwards.

The new 'Vodafone Happy Live! UMTS for CallYa' tariff option means that Vodafone's pre-paid customers can now zap through the channels on mobile TV, surprise friends with a video call or download music files in MP3 quality and enjoy the exciting multimedia world thanks to high-speed UMTS.

The price model is inexpensive and transparent. New pre-paid cards are preset to the CallYa Basic tariff as usual. Customers who purchase an UMTS phone automatically receive the UMTS option. As a result, they pay a low-cost fixed rate of only EUR 5 a month for access to many UMTS-based multimedia services. The tariff includes a flat rate for unlimited surfing on the Vodafone live! portal5, free mobile TV until the end of the year3, one music download per month4, Vodafone Mobile Mail6 and video calls for the price of voice calls until 31.10.052.

Not only is the convincing CallYa package an attractive offer that Vodafone has put together to mark the launch of UMTS for pre-paid customers, CallYa customers also get the attractive Motorola C980 UMTS phone for only EUR 149.50 . It features a VGA camera with 4 x digital zoom and a 32 MB TransFlash memory card, and comes with a stereo headset for optimum use of the new UMTS services. There are also ten euros' worth of free calls on the CallYa SIM card.

Existing CallYa customers can optionally book the new UMTS option from 31 October 2005 onwards.

Introductory offer: three month's free use of UMTS services
Another highlight for new customers who opt for an UMTS phone is that they can use the Vodafone Happy Live! UMTS tariff option free of charge for three months as of the date of booking. In other words, they can browse the Vodafone live! portal, watch the football highlights on Mobile TV on Saturdays or live Eurosport broadcasts until 31.10.2005, and make their first 'face-to-face' calls via videotelephony for the same price as voice calls. The Vodafone Music Downloads are another highlight that the Motorola C980 fully supports. Users can download the latest songs in MP3 quality in the same way that they would from Internet music shops via the Vodafone live! portal or via the Internet. By pressing just a few keys, they can select their favourite song and download it to their mobile phone. Preferences for pop, rock, reggae and classic are irrelevant because Vodafone's contracts with all major record companies have enabled it to compile a music library containing over half a million songs in all music genres.

The booking and billing procedure is as follows: the packages with the Motorola C980 will be available at the Vodafone shops from 9 September onwards. When the first three months of free usage expire, the 'Vodafone Happy Live! UMTS for CallYa' tariff option will be automatically extended by one further month unless the customer cancels it with two weeks notice prior to the expiry date. The monthly rate of EUR 5 is then automatically deducted from the CallYa account. Pre-paid customers receive an SMS to notify them that they don't have enough CallYa credit to continue using the 'Vodafone Happy Live! UMTS for CallYa' option and that it is being temporarily deactivated. As soon as enough credit has been restored to the account to deduct the package price, the tariff option is reactivated and the term commences again for a further month. The offer is limited until 30.06.2006.

Coming soon: further UMTS phones for CallYa
Over the next few weeks, Vodafone will be extending its range of UMTS phones for CallYa customers. The SonyEricsson V600i will be available from mid-September onwards, followed by the Motorola V980, Samsung Z140V, Motorola E770V and Sagem My-V850. These mobile phones are for exclusive use in conjunction with the supplied CallYa card for a period of two years.
