With a wonderful ring tone, there is a new beginning of the Africa communication history. Huawei succeeded in making the first WCDMA call in Tunisia, which is also the first WCDMA call in Africa. Through the execution of this project, Huawei is confident to provide an excellent WCDMA network to serve World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in 2005.
For the 3G pilot network, Huawei will provide the entire end-to-end UMTS solution for the 3G launch, including UMTS radio access network, core network, 3G mobile intelligent network, 3G mobile data service platform and even 3G handsets. For the UMTS system, Huawei will provide all the equipment based on 3GPP R4 protocol. The core network is backward compatible with 3GPP R99 and GSM. And Huawei will provide diversified UMTS services to let people experience the splendid 3G world, which includes MMS, Video Phone, Streaming, Pocket TV, Internet Surfing and so on.
The coverage of the Huawei 3G network includes Tunis, Hammamet and the highway between Tunis and Hammamet. In Tunis, the network will serve the main hotspots in Tunis, such as Bourguiba street, the Ministry Office, the meeting place for World Summit on the Information Society, technology park, etc,. The network of Hammamet will cover the new popular tour areas, the hotel quarter and even the vacation villa of Tunisia President.
This cooperation further strengthens the partnership between Tunisia Telecom and Huawei, which have already cooperated in the fields of wireless network, fixed network, broadband access network, optical transmission network, and multimedia service network etc.

Tunisia is expected to grant 3G license in the latter half of 2005. That Huawei succeeded in making the first WCDMA call in Africa will strengthen the confidence for Tunisia to develop 3G.
