Conversations at the push of a button: Reach friends or business contacts instantly - Push-to-talk brings walkie-talkie function to the mobile phone - Friendly-customer trial begins

"Push-to-talk" is attracting increasing international attention. This new technology for voice transmission works similarly to a walkie-talkie: all it takes is the push of a button on the mobile phone, and you are instantly connected to one or more recipients. Push-to-talk has long been on the market in the USA, now mobilkom austria is the first mobile communications company to bring this technology to Austria.

Intelligent New Technologies for Our Customers
In the USA it is already very popular, in Europe comprehensive trials are underway. Now push-to-talk is also coming to Austria. "We want to offer our customers innovative products, services and additional functions. Both business as well as private customers - especially young people - can benefit from this product's added value and utility," explains Dr. Hannes Ametsreiter, Director of Marketing, Distribution and Customer Service.

Conversations at the Push of a Button - How Does Push-to-Talk Work?
Push-to-talk uses the walkie-talkie principle: pushing a 'talk' button on the mobile phone establishes a connection to one or more members of a 'buddy list' - a concise address book. The connection is made at the push of a button, and the recipient immediately hears the message through the mobile phone's speaker without having to pick up. Participants in the conversation take turns speaking by holding down the push-to-talk button. This function can also be muted or turned off as the situation requires.

Push-to-talk transmits voice communication in packet form via GPRS. The connection is made instantly, considerably simplifying phone conferencing, announcements, as well as casual conversations among friends.

mobilkom austria Begins Push-to-Talk Friendly Customer Phase
Following comprehensive testing with several manufacturers during the past months, A1 customers can now try out push-to-talk technology free of charge as part of our friendly-user trial. Feedback from these selected customers will help shape the final product design, in order to optimally meet customers needs.

mobilkom austria was the first mobile communications operator in Austria to establish a GSM network, and was the first provider to offer MMS as well. With A1 NETWORK mobilkom austria introduced Europe's first mobile VPN; the company also pioneered the first introduction UMTS throughout Europe. And with its introduction of a full-coverage GPRS network, A1 was able to claim a world premier for itself. These achievements have made mobilkom austria the leader in innovations on the Austrian mobile communications market, a role the company continues to live up to with the introduction of push-to-talk.
