Telekom Malaysia has completed six (6) months of pilot from 1 July 2003 to 14 January 2004 and is pleased to announce the provision of 3G or third generation advanced cellular telecommunications service, which is based on the Wideband Code Division Multi Access (W-CDMA) standard.

Customers will get to enjoy the 3G, also known as High Speed Mobile Broadband service at reasonable charges between today and 31 December 2004. However, the true capabilities of 3G will not be realised in the early phase since the technology is still in its infancy stage.

Telekom Malaysia is targeting up to 300 customers for the initial introduction and hopes to secure more customers by the end of the year. The service is provided in various parts of the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) and Klang Valley.

With High Speed Mobile Broadband (3G) service, transmission of text, digitized voice, video and multimedia could be done at speeds of up to 2Mbps at a very short time frame as compared to 144kbps using GPRS services. The service will further enhance the use of mobile phones into a personalized device for information, transactions, entertainment and security purpose.
