Sharp has selected Ericsson Mobile Platforms to supply 3G mobile platforms. The license agreement between Ericsson and Sharp covers Sharp's first WCDMA and Triband-GSM compatible handset with a mega pixel camera for the Japanese market. The device is based on Ericsson Mobile Platform's UMTS product (U100), which is a complete platform for dual mode GSM/GPRS and WCDMA terminals with very low power consumption and small size. "We are very pleased that Sharp, who is a market leader for PDC and advanced multimedia phones has selected Ericsson as a partner," says Sandeep Chennakeshu, President of Ericsson Mobile Platforms. "This agreement and the launch of Sharp's dual mode GSM/GPRS and WCDMA handset further underlines Ericsson Mobile Platforms leadership in 3G-platforms." "This dual mode 3G handset from Sharp is a powerful multimedia terminal, with a megapixel camera and QVGA display," says Masafumi Matsumoto, Corporate Director and Group General Manager, Sharp Corporation. "We chose the Ericsson Mobile Platforms U100 platform due to the flexibility, which allowed us to differentiate the product, it's stability, security, low power consumption and small size. We look forward to continue working with Ericsson Mobile Platforms to launch new exciting devices on the market." |
