Lucent Technologies has been selected by Telefnica Mviles Espaa, Spain's largest mobile operator, to provide advanced network management software for its new third-generation (3G) Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) network, as well as its existing GSM and GPRS networks. Lucent's NavisRadius(TM) software will enable Telefnica Mviles to rapidly introduce secure data services to subscribers on these networks. Terms and conditions of the deal are not being disclosed.
Telefnica Mviles Espaa will use Lucent's NavisRadius(TM) SP Authentication, Authorisation and Accounting (AAA) solution to provide robust security features -- through advanced authentication and authorisation capabilities -- to its 19,6 million subscribers in Spain, including its corporate customers. NavisRadius(TM) is part of a comprehensive suite of Operation System Support (OSS) products and services that Lucent is offering to mobile service operators to support new revenue-generating services, reduce operational costs and increase customer satisfaction. Lucent Worldwide Services will provide systems integration and installation services.
"Ensuring that we can give our subscribers the best possible mobile 'experience', including absolute confidence in the security of their mobile data services, is a critical priority for us," said Ignacio Camarero, Chief Operating Officer of Telefonica Mviles Espaa. "The ability of Lucent's solution to support our roll-out of secure new data services while maintaining network integrity and quality of service was key to winning this project."
"Lucent prides itself on fully understanding, and exceeding, the operational challenges of customers such as Telefonica, and having the sophisticated solutions they need to meet those challenges," said Dave Poticny, president of Lucent Technologies Europe. "Through our software and services expertise, Lucent can ensure that Telefonica Moviles can focus on delivering the content and services its customers demand, and not on the complexities underlying these offers." |
