The mobile arm of Siemens AG - Siemens mobile for short - is setting up another 3G/UMTS network in Luxemburg. The operator LuXcommunications S.A. has commissioned the company to deliver the entire 3G/UMTS network infrastructure. The contract covers as well network installation as the maintenance and expansion of the network.

Setup of the network starts right away since LuXcommunications wants to be able to offer the first 3G/UMTS services and applications before autumn this year. The order for Siemens comprises delivery of the entire 3G/UMTS network infrastructure for the radio and switching network. The contract also covers the maintenance and upgrades of the network in line with the current state of the art, to allow the end customer to use the latest services.

As LuXcommunications is also active as virtual GSM operator on the LUXGSM network, new customers of LuXcommunications can thus initially use its GSM innovative services and then, during the course of 2004, also the first multimedia services via LuXcommunications' 3G/UMTS network.

"This contract with Siemens mobile as a strong partner with a lot of experience in the 3G/UMTS sector, is an important component for us to be able to offer our customers new mobile communication services in the near future", commented Jean-Claude Bintz, Director of LuXcommunications S.A.
