Notebook users with Vodafone's new "Mobile Connect Card UMTS" can also gain high-speed access to the Internet, Intranet or e-mails when they are abroad. Vodafone has become the first German mobile telecommunications operator to enable UMTS roaming using a datacard in Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Sweden. There is no additional basic fee, and there is no need to reconfigure the card or notebook.

Business travellers and holidaymakers can now also transfer their data in European Vodafone networks at speeds of up to 384 kilobits per second - which equals six times the speed of ISDN. This means that convenient online work via e-mail and easy Internet surfing are now also possible internationally, regardless of whether you're on the move in the City of London or on a beach in Barcelona. Vodafone's global footprint makes this possible. With this offering, the Dusseldorf-based mobile telecommunications provider, following the successful launch of UMTS, has passed another milestone on the path towards worldwide usability of the third mobile generation service offering.

UMTS usage abroad is charged for in line with the conditions already applying to GSM and GPRS. Thus, data transmission in the West European Vodafone networks is charged at EUR 0.59 per 100 KB for customers with the Vodafone Time and Vodafone Volume tariff options (plus EUR 0.40 per connection, prices including VAT).
