i9 3G is the first product with videocall service

As from this week TMN will make available to its clients 3rd generation mobile phones, becoming the first operator on the Portuguese market to offer the possibility of making videocalls.

The i9 3G will be on sale in TMN shops as of 21 April 2004.

As with the GSM and GPRS technologies, the new mobile telecommunications network will be implemented gradually. Tests carried out with the new technology have shown that conditions are in place to start marketing the equipment and making this service available to clients.

Although initially concentrated in Lisbon and Oporto, the UMTS coverage for 3rd generation mobile phones will be progressively extended to the whole of Portugal.

As 3G terminals function both on GSM/GPRS and on UMTS, automatically selecting the network, users can use all voice, multimedia and data services already offered by TMN.

To use 3G, clients will need a new mobile phone with UMTS technology. i9 3G is TMN's first commercially available 3G mobile phone, which is enabled to videocalls and broadband internet. For clients that are specially interested in broadband interned connection, we recommend buying a UMTS mobile connect card, 3G Access card.

The first i9 3G mobile phone launched on the market by TMN is the Siemens U15 while the 3G Access card is the Merlin U530 PCMCIA card.

TMN, the first operator in the world to launch the prepaid concept in 1995, is now the first operator in Portugal and amongst the first in the world to launch the videocall service.
