Optimus has selected Huawei as its key technology partner for the planned deployment of commercial LTE
services in Portugal. The Chinese vendor will supply its SingleRAN
solution, which will enable the operator to offer peak data speeds of
up to 150 Mbps. The new LTE network will enable rich multimedia
applications, such as video conferencing, high-definition content
transmission, high speed video downloads and social network updates.
Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology
(ICT) solutions provider, today announced that it has been selected to
launch commercial LTE services for Optimus in Portugal, using its
industry-leading SingleRAN solution.
To retain its position as a leading innovator in broadband, Optimus
made the decision to provide mobile broadband (MBB) services based on
LTE technology to its customers, selecting Huawei as a key technology
partner due to the company’s rich experience in commercial LTE
deployment and successful delivery of high-quality networks.
Optimus’ implementation of Huawei's SingleRAN LTE solution will offer
theoretical data speeds of up to 150 Mb/s. The new LTE network will
enable rich multimedia applications, such as video conferencing,
high-definition content transmission, high speed video downloads and
social network updates, giving customers an unparalleled mobile
broadband experience. End users will benefit from seamless mobile
services both from the existing GSM/UMTS and new LTE networks.
"Optimus is excited to announce that Huawei has been selected as a
strategic partner for the important launch of our commercial LTE
services in Portugal. We are committed to providing our customers with
the best mobile broadband experience, while simultaneously guaranteeing
an efficient, sustainable and up-to-date network operation. We believe
that Huawei's innovative solution and rich commercial experience will
enable our customers to enjoy an incomparable mobile broadband
experience," said Mr. José Pinto Correia, CTO of Optimus.
"Our successful partnership with Optimus on Wireless, from GSM, UMTS
and now LTE, demonstrates the effectiveness of Huawei’s SingleRAN LTE
solution in helping operators cope with the challenges of operating
multiple networks and meeting the demands of mobile broadband
simultaneously," said Ying Weimin, President of GSM&UMTS<E
Network, Huawei. "We are committed to being the best business partner
possible for our customers worldwide, and will remain focused on
customer-centric innovation to do this."
At the 2012 LTE World Summit in Barcelona in May, Huawei was honored
with two top awards for "Most Significant Development for Commercial
LTE Networks" and "Best LTE Core Network Element," a demonstration of
the industry’s recognition of Huawei's leading status in the LTE
industry and its continued contributions to the development of LTE.
