The German telecommunications trade magazine, TeleTalk, presented one of its "TeleTalk Best of CeBIT 2004 Awards" to Vodafone's UMTS data card. The editors voted Vodafone's Mobile Connect Card UMTS as the best product in the "Mobile Solutions" category. This award is presented in recognition of innovative communications solutions, "which open-up new business perspectives and are a source of inspiration".

The TeleTalk award is the second accolade received by Vodafone this year for its Mobile Connect Card: at the GSM World Congress in Cannes, the GSM Association's prestigious "Best Mobile Application or Service: Corporate Market" award also went to the data card.

One of the reasons given by the jury for choosing the Vodafone Mobile Connect Card UMTS is that it comprises a fully integrated connectivity solution for notebook users. At the same time, the TeleTalk team presented the award in recognition of Vodafone's pioneering role in the introduction of UMTS, the third generation of mobile telecommunications.

Back in February, Vodafone was the first network operator in Germany to commence sales of the notebook data card. This card enables highly mobile notebook users to work faster and more efficiently. In the more than 300 cities throughout Germany where Vodafone already provides the UMTS service, users can surf the Internet, download data from the Internet, send and receive E-mails at data rates of up to 384 kbit/s - which is six times faster than ISDN.
