Customers of Vodafone Portugal can now use 3G/UMTS data services when roaming. Vodafone Portugal is the only Portuguese operator offering 3G technology and one of the first in the world to provide its customers with roaming access to 3G/UMTS data services.
Customers will therefore be able to use the Vodafone 3G/GPRS Mobile Connect Card abroad, allowing them to access e-mail, Internet and other applications anywhere from a portable computer, securely, easily and at broadband speeds. The data transfer speed of this service abroad is the same as in Portugal - up to 384 kbps.
In the initial phase, Vodafone Portugal customers will have roaming 3G/UMTS access in Spain (Vodafone Spain), the United Kingdom (Vodafone UK), the Netherlands (Vodafone Netherlands), Italy (Vodafone Italy) and Japan (Vodafone K.K.). The service will shortly also be available on the networks of operators of the Vodafone Group in Germany, France and Sweden.
When a customer travels to places that do not yet have 3G coverage, the Vodafone 3G/GPRS Mobile Connect Card switches automatically to operating on GPRS, which is available throughout these countries. International 3G coverage will continue to be progressively extended.
3G roaming data calls will be charged in accordance with the current tariffs for GPRS/2.5G roaming calls.
With the introduction of this service abroad, Vodafone is making an important contribution to increasing the productivity of companies and the quality of people's lives by allowing its customers to work on the move at the speeds they are used to in the office, both in Portugal and abroad. |
