China Mobile Hong Kong Selects Ericsson and ZTE to build FDD LTE and TD-LTE Converged Network in Hong Kong

China Mobile has selected Ericsson and ZTE to deploy a converged TD-LTE and FDD-LTE network in Hong Kong. The TD-LTE technology will be added over the existing FDD-LTE system to build a dual mode network, which is scheduled to launch by the end of 2012. China Mobile won the 2.3 GHz frequency band in February 2012 and launched FDD-LTE services in April 2012.

China Mobile Hong Kong Ltd. (“CMHK”) today announced selects Ericsson and ZTE to build the seamless converged FDD LTE and TD-LTE network in Hong Kong. TD-LTE technology will add on the existing FDD LTE network to build a dual mode network. The two companies have equally share in the form of 50 percent respectively on the network construct ion project.

CMHK won the bid for the 2300 MHz TDD band in February and launched the 4G services riding on the FDD LTE network in April this year. In addition, the company announced earlier that plans to launch the converged FDD LTE and TD-LTE network in Hong Kong by end of this year. After rigorous selection and tests, the company selects Ericsson and ZTE as the technology partners on network construction. This move will further enhance the existing 4G LTE network, utilize the network resources and optimize the network quality in order to provide superb and stable mobile network services to our customers.

Mr. Sean Lee, Director and Chief Executive Officer of China Mobile Hong Kong, said, “We have successfully performed the live 4G LTE FDD and TDD handover in Hong Kong recently. Meanwhile, we also demonstrated the roaming capability on TD-LTE and FDD LTE network between China and Hong Kong in the “TDD Night” event at a seminar held in Hangzhou on June 19, which is the first demonstration of this kind in the world. It clearly stated that CMHK masters the technical solution on the seamless integration of FDD and TDD networks. We are very confident on launching the dual mode network services to the market by end of this year. We hope the dual mode devices will be available to market soon so as to cope with our converged 4G network services.”
