Greek mobile users will soon enjoy 3rd generation mobile services as TELESTET is on the verge of commercial launch.

This week TELESTET initiates 3G offering to a selected number of "friendly users", people accustomed to technology, who will have the privilege to experience first in Greece mobile communication through the 3rd generation network. These first "friendly users", 300 in number, will test 3G services at no cost since TELESTET will use their comments and feedback in order to fine tune the final shape of 3G services that it will launch commercially at the end of 2003.

The services that "friendly users" will put to the test are:

- Fast Internet with speeds that reach up to 384 kbps
- Multimedia (MMS) services at higher speeds than today, as well as
- Voice calls through the UMTS network

The test will take place with special 3G terminals and SIM cards, enabling users to communicate via the GSM and the UMTS network as well. Today TELESTET has already installed the biggest part of its 3G network in Athens and Salonica. Upon the commercial launch of UMTS, TELESTET's 3rd generation network will cover the 25% of Greek population while by 2006 it will cover 50% of the Greek population with presence in the biggest Greek cities.

TELESTET's investment for UMTS deployment in the period 2003-2007 is estimated at 300 million Euro.
