As part of a CA$22 million investment, TELUS has upgraded its Dual
Carrier HSPA+ network in Manitoba by adding two new cell towers and
upgrading 42 existing sites to increase capacity. By the end of 2011,
the Canadian operator will further expand the network to the Victoria
Beach area and Steinbach. Dual Carrier HSPA+ technology offers peak
downlink speeds up to 42 Mbps with an expected average of 7-14 Mbps.
TELUS is delivering on its commitment to serve more communities in
Manitoba by turning on two new cell towers in Oakbank and Dugald and
upgrading 42 existing wireless sites in and around Winnipeg to offer
increased network capacity.
TELUS’ investment brings new 4G coverage along Highways 1, 7 and 75
and additional coverage in and around Winnipeg increasing. This
represents a 15 per cent increase in 4G wireless coverage in the
province since launching back in February. By the end of 2011, TELUS
will further extend its coverage around the Victoria Beach area and
Steinbach.
“We are investing millions of dollars year after year, bringing the
most advanced network technologies to our customers across Canada,”
said Brent Johnston, vice-president, Mobility Marketing, TELUS. “Our
$22 million investment in the province this year will give Manitobans
the convenience of using their TELUS wireless device in an extended
zone around Winnipeg. In addition, the upgrades to our cell towers will
enable even more customers to access Canada’s fastest coast-to-coast*
4G network with exceptional speeds and reliability.”
Earlier this year, TELUS announced it is investing $22 million in
Manitoba to further expand and enhance its 4G wireless services for
consumers, businesses and healthcare providers. As part of this
investment, TELUS has rolled out HSPA+ Dual Cell technology in
Manitoba, one of the most advanced wireless technologies in the world,
which offers speeds up to 42 megabits per second with an expected
average of 7-14 megabits per second**. This year's network investment
builds upon the $250 million TELUS has invested in its operations and
technology in Manitoba in the last 10 years.
*Based on TELUS' tests of data throughput speeds in large Canadian
urban centres available from national HSPA+ service providers.
**Speed may vary due to the device being used, network congestion,
distance from the cell site, local conditions and other factors.
