Following its acquisition of test frequencies in the 1800 MHz
band, Mobitel has deployed and tested an LTE network using 20 MHz of
spectrum. The network was initially rolled out in the southeastern part
of Ljubljana, with the goal of a gradual expansion across the
operator's 3G footprint. The development paves the way for
commercialisation of LTE technology in Slovenia. Mobitel is also at the
final phase of testing the Dual Carrier HSPA+ solution, which supports
peak downlink speeds of up to 42 Mbps.
Mobitel, the leading Slovenian mobile operator, has been making its
technology investments for the last couple of years in accordance with
the vision of implementing the LTE and LTE Advanced technologies. Just a
few days after acquiring additional test frequencies, Mobitel deployed
an LTE network in the 1800MHz frequency band on the 20MHz frequency
bandwidth, and tested it live. The first results are excellent and
promise a state-of-the-art user experience.
Mobitel is constantly upgrading its technology infrastructure, and it
has been for several years focusing on the coming fourth generation of
mobile telecommunications, the LTE and LTE Advanced technologies.
These will provide users with even higher transfer speeds in the
network, as well as extremely high-capacity and fast mobile internet all
over Slovenia.
Just a few days after acquiring test frequencies Mobitel deployed an
LTE network in the 1800MHz frequency band and began testing it. The
results are excellent, with the transfer speeds reaching up to 100Mbps,
and the system responsiveness more than doubled compared to HSPA+. The
LTE network was first deployed in the southeastern part of Ljubljana,
and is intended for internal tests of this latest technology, with the
goal of gradual expansion, ensuring an optimum side-by-side operation
with the GSM and UMTS systems. This paves the way for commercializing
LTE technology in Slovenia.
Alongside this project Mobitel is still expanding and upgrading the
HSPA network. It provides transfer speeds of up to 21.6Mbps, which will
further increase in the future, as Mobitel is already in the final
phases of testing the dual carrier HSPA solution, which provides speeds
of up to 43Mbps, using the latest data modems that Mobitel has already
included in its range.
Mobitel plans a full deployment of LTE and LTE Advanced in Slovenia
using the 800MHz, 1800MHz and 2600MHz frequency bands. Such an approach
allows achieving the best coverage, very high throughput, and network
capacities, which is a precondition for providing extremely high
transfer speeds to a large number of simultaneous users.
