Deutsche Telekom has announced plans to roll out HSPA+ Dual Carrier
services in 2011. The new technology doubles peak downlink rates to
42.2 Mbps. The company is to introduce new web'n'walk sticks for
laptops and notebooks, as well as new data packages. The web'n'walk
stick Fusion III, supporting downlink rates of up to 21.6 Mbps, is
available from this month with a new web'n'walk Connect XL price plan
at EUR54.95 per month. The web'n'walk stick Business II, which enables
downlink speeds of up to 42 Mbps, launches in June with a price plan of
EUR75.95 per month.
Telekom's efforts at expanding and optimising its mobile
communications network are in full swing. In addition to filling gaps
in DSL coverage, the company is gradually increasing the maximum
transmission rate available in the existing HSPA network. This means
that since the beginning of 2010 customers have been able to surf the
web with download speeds of up to 21.6 Mbit/s and upload data with
speeds of up to 5.76 Mbit/s in the majority of the network. And the
next acceleration step is already planned. Over the course of 2011
Telekom intends to nearly double the download speed to almost 42.2
Mbit/s. In order for customers to optimally benefit from the new
service scope, the company will be introducing web'n'walk sticks for
laptops and notebooks as well as new data rates in the coming weeks.
Top bandwidths of more than 20 and more than 40 Mbit/s respectively
enable connected life and work while on the road in an entirely new
dimension: based on this, managers and employees can download large
files in seconds on each individual laptop, work with complex
applications on the corporate network without any delays and participate
in video conferences of high audiovisual quality. Surfing enthusiasts
will also enjoy more speed for more fun during their leisure time -
during mobile Internet browsing or streaming videos at up to VDSL
speeds. As of March 2011 Telekom will offer web'n'walk stick Fusion
III, which features bandwidths of up to 21.6 Mbit/s for downlink and
5.76 Mbit/s for uplink. In June 2011 web'n'walk stick Business II will
be added to the portfolio, enabling speeds of up to 42 Mbit/s for
downlink and 5.76 Mbit/s for uplink. Both sticks can also be used in
the T-Mobile USA network, support Windows, Mac OS and Linux operating
systems and have a microSD port with a capacity of up to 32 GB. An
external antenna can be connected to both web'n'walk sticks.
Telekom is also supplementing its current data rate offer for the use
of top bandwidths with the new sticks - web'n'walk Connect S, M and L
Basic and Premium - with the web'n'walk Connect XL and XXL rates. Both
data flat rates are aimed at real "power users" with mobile IT
workstations: web'n'walk Connect XL offers bandwidths of up to 21.6
Mbit/s, with broadband decrease only occurring after 10 GB have been
used. The XXL version is designed for mobile bandwidths of up to 42.2
Mbit/s, with transmission speeds slowing down after 20 GB have been
used. Both rates allow uploads at up to 5.76 Mbit/s; HotSpot Flat is
included with both. web'n'walk Connect XL costs EUR 46.18 net per month
with a discounted surf stick; web'n'walk Connect XL costs EUR 62.98
net per month, with the stick included. Both rates are also available
in economy versions for EUR 41.97 and EUR 58.78 net per month
respectively, without the stick. Consumers will pay EUR 74.95 for
web'n'walk Connect XXL and EUR 54.95 for web'n'walk Connect XL with
discounted surf stick. The rates are EUR 5.00 less for the economy
versions. The new data rates will be available from April 2011.
