Hong Kong’s CSL, part of Telstra, has announced plans to simultaneously deploy Dual Carrier (DC) HPSA+ and LTE technologies on an entire network in cooperation with ZTE. The infrastructure was demonstrated at the LTE Asia 2010 conference. In July 2010, CSL and ZTE commercially launched 1800 MHz/2600 MHz dual-band LTE network and upgraded CSL’s 3G network to DC HSPA+ technology, enabling peak downlink rates of 42 Mbps. At the LTE Asia 2010 Conference today, CSL Limited (CSL), Hong Kong’s leading mobile network operator in partnership with ZTE Corporation, a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions demonstrated CSL’s progress to being the first in the world to simultaneously deploy DC HPSA+ (42 Mbps)/LTE technologies on an entire network. CSL and ZTE demonstrated to the world live LTE service with pre-commercial USB modems running various broadband, multi-media applications, including hi-speed file download/upload, internet browsing, HD video download and streaming performance, and many other features that will resonate with the next generation of mobile users. This gives the delegates a first-hand experience with the LTE service being deployed all over Hong Kong. While CSL’s superior Next G network in Hong Kong already helped to introduce a slew of mobile applications for consumers, LTE will improve customer experience for applications including HDTV, mobile blogging, gaming, and e-learning. This will bring significant changes to the way consumers experience mobile communications. Businesses will benefit from mobile office, mobile HD video conferencing, mobile real-time surveillance, and mobile interactive marketing and advertising, harnessing the power of cloud computing with their mobile devices at work or on the go. “CSL’s data traffic has increased by 40 times since the launch of Next G network in March 2009, it is clear that there is a strong need for LTE in Hong Kong to continue to provide a superior customer experience,” said Christian Daigneault, Chief Technology Officer, CSL Limited and keynote speaker at the LTE Asia Conference. “CSL is proud to be one of the first operators in the world to pioneer an LTE network that will meet this demand. Currently, we provide a superior 3G network that will also be upgraded with the Dual Cell HSPA technology to continue to deliver the best performance in the city and is meeting the coverage demands of rapidly growing smart phone and mobile broadband usage. At the same time, we are on the threshold of a quantum leap in telecommunications technology with the LTE launch and timely availability of LTE-enabled devices.” In July 2010, CSL and ZTE have announced the deployment of the world’s first commercial 1800 MHz/2600 MHz dual-band LTE network and the upgrade of the 3G network to the Dual Cell technology with peak speeds of 42Mbps. The dual-band LTE network will take advantage of CSL’s spectrum position to provide customers with better coverage and enhanced penetration for a more satisfying communications experience.
Since the end of 2009, ZTE and CSL have been testing LTE with
pre-commercial LTE USB modems and field trials conducted showed peak
download speeds reaching up to 100Mbps in the streets of Hong Kong.
For their success and partnership in the LTE industry, the two
companies have been recently named 2010 LTE Infrastructure Innovation
award winners by the Global Telecoms Business (GTB). About CSL CSL is Hong Kong’s first and leading mobile network operator.
