India’s Tata Teleservices (TTSL) has selected Nokia Siemens Networks
(NSN) to deploy its 3G WCDMA/HSPA+ network. Under the terms of the
contract, NSN will supply its compact, energy-efficient and LTE-ready
Flexi Multiradio Base Stations. The vendor will also provide network
implementation and managed services, as well as its NetAct network
management system to monitor, manage and optimize the 3G/HSPA+ network,
and supply other operational support systems. NSN will be able to
support TTSL immediately thanks to its local 3G manufacturing facility
at Chennai. TTSL won 3G spectrum in nine of India’s telecom circles
earlier this year.
Tata Teleservices Ltd (TTSL) is India’s first privately owned mobile
operator to sign a deal securing its 3G telecoms supplier. It has
selected Nokia Siemens Networks technology and expertise to support the
launch of 3G. The network, based on WCDMA 3G and including HSPA+, will
allow TTSL to offer high-quality mobile broadband providing fast
Internet browsing and better quality voice calls.
“There is huge demand for mobile Internet access in India, and that’s
what 3G brings,” said Mr. AG Rao, chief technology officer and
president, Enterprise Business, TTSL. “We want to move quickly, which
is why we’re the first to secure our key 3G technology and services
supplier. Nokia Siemens Networks has demonstrated capabilities in our
previous 2G deployments, and with its technological superiority it has
facilitated us with the fastest time-to-market for new services, and
the best value for combined operating and capital costs for mobile
networks.”
“We are committed to a rapid rollout of TTSL’s network,” said Urs
Pennanen, head of India Region, Nokia Siemens Networks. “Our strong
local 3G expertise will allow us to create a truly efficient and
high-quality network that will delight TTSL customers. This deployment
embeds the latest mobile technology in the Tata Teleservices network
preparing it for future demand.”
Under the scope of the contract, Nokia Siemens Networks will supply
its compact, energy-efficient and LTE-ready Flexi Multiradio Base
Stations. In addition to enabling higher network capacity and faster
mobile broadband services, these base stations allow “active sharing”***
between operators to improve efficiency.
Nokia Siemens Networks will provide network implementation and
managed services to ensure a smooth rollout, improved network
performance and seamless introduction of new services. The company will
also provide its NetAct network management system to monitor, manage
and optimize the 3G/HSPA+ network, and supply other operational support
systems.
Nokia Siemens Networks can rapidly deliver 3G in India, thanks to its
in-country 3G manufacturing facility at Chennai. It already serves
many of the world’s leading 3G operators from its Global Network
Solutions Centers located in Noida and Chennai, and these centers will
be able to support TTSL from day one.
Nokia Siemens Networks’ research and development center in Bengaluru
drives 3G-related initiatives for both the domestic and international
market. The company has already set up 3G test labs in India, trained
more than 3,200 India-based 3G technology experts and carried out site
surveys for 3G network deployments.
