Bouygues Telecom has selected Alcatel-Lucent IP/MPLS-based mobile backhaul solution to flexibly support an anticipated surge in smartphone data usage. Alcatel-Lucent’s technology will enable the French operator to upgrade its Radio Access Network to a flatter IP/Ethernet network while increasing its bandwidth capacity to support new services. The move is part of Bouygues Telecom’s strategy to evolve a smarter, more converged, cost-effective mobile transport network infrastructure. Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced that Bouygues Telecom of France has selected the Alcatel-Lucent IP/MPLS-based mobile backhaul solution to flexibly support the anticipated smartphone data deluge. According to a recent PricewaterhouseCoopers survey, one in four French residents, which is more than 18 million people, will be equipped to access mobile broadband services in 2014. As a result, the French operator is evolving its network with a smarter, more converged, cost-effective mobile transport network infrastructure - enabling simplified operations and improving profitability. “By leveraging our High Leverage Network™ architecture, Alcatel-Lucent enables Bouygues Telecom to economically and efficiently upgrade its Radio Access Network to a flatter IP/Ethernet network while increasing its bandwidth capacity to support new services. Helping our customers effectively transform their networks is critical to help them increase their revenue and provide a better service experience to their end users,” said Adolfo Hernandez, President of Alcatel-Lucent EMEA. Alcatel-Lucent will deploy its 7750 Service Router (SR) and 7705 Service Aggregation Router (SAR) along with the Alcatel-Lucent 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM). Alcatel-Lucent will provide a full range of comprehensive business transformation services including network design, installation, integration, testing and system maintenance. About Alcatel-Lucent’s IP/MPLS solution Alcatel-Lucent’s IP/MPLS solution supports “any G” RAN backhaul, giving operators an LTE-ready solution that also addresses today’s immediate 2G/3G capacity requirements. The solution leverages common routing and management platforms for backhaul transport and the wireless packet core, which includes the 7x50 Service Router (SR), the 7705 Service Aggregation Router (SAR) and the 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM). About Alcatel-Lucent’s High Leverage Network™ The Alcatel-Lucent High Leverage Network™ (HLN) architecture addresses the dual challenges of simultaneously scaling and managing network capacity to meet increasing bandwidth demand while delivering differentiated, revenue generating services. It achieves this by delivering scalable bandwidth at the lowest cost per bit and by embedding intelligence in the network to enable dynamic service creation and delivery. The foundation for the Alcatel-Lucent Application Enablement vision, the HLN architecture collapses multiple complex costly overlay networks into a simpler, fully optimized network that leverages technical innovations and embraces existing environments.
