Singapore’s M1 has unveiled an application store, branded the M1
AppStore, with a mix of free and paid content available for various
operating platforms, including iPhone OS, Android, Symbian, BlackBerry,
Windows Mobile and Java. M1 is also aiming to stimulate the local
developer community by offering cash incentives to selected developers.
The operator is also giving developers the opportunity to price their
products and enjoy revenue share arrangements.
M1 will launch an application store to bring the latest and most
exciting applications to its customers under one roof.
When the M1 AppStore debuts tomorrow, M1 customers will be able to
access a wide selection of applications ranging from games,
entertainment and sports to social networking, education and utilities.
These applications will be available on various operating platforms
including iPhone, Android, Symbian, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile and
Java.
Customers will also be able to access applications that were
previously restricted to specific mobile platforms on their devices,
such as the highly rated iPhone game, Doodle Jump, which is now
available on other platforms in the M1 AppStore.
The M1 AppStore has a mix of free and chargeable content. Customers’
purchases of the latter will be billed to their monthly statements.
Prepaid customers will have the charges deducted from their card
balances.
Customers can access the M1 AppStore at http://appstore.m1.com.sg.
Alternatively, they can also log on to the M1 AppStore from Miworld
Mobile, M1’s mobile portal, on their mobile phone.
Besides offering customers a convenient means to access applications,
the M1 AppStore will also serve as a channel for M1 to reach out and
actively engage the community of local content developers.
Under a new scheme, M1 will offer the M1 AppStore to developers as a
platform to commercialise their applications and gain valuable market
exposure. Key benefits of the scheme include cash incentives for
selected developers who will have the opportunity to price their
products as well as enjoy revenue share arrangements.
“Developers are important stakeholders and the M1 AppStore will
create opportunities for win-win partnerships. We hope to attract more
developers to join us in growing the M1 AppStore into a significant
centre for content development,” said Alex Tan, Deputy Director,
Product Development, M1.
Developers who are interested in joining the scheme can register at http://appstore.m1.com.sg/developer.
M1, Singapore's most exciting and innovative mobile, broadband and
IDD service provider, was launched in April 1997. Since then, it has
made significant inroads into the local mobile communications market,
