COSMOTE has deployed HSPA+ Dual Carrier technology in Greece. During field trials, the operator has reached mobile broadband data rates of to up to 42.2 Mbps. COSMOTE is Greece’s first network operator to move to HSPA+ Dual Carrier technology. The Dual-Carrier technology is based on the aggregation of two carriers and is a standardized HSPA+ feature of 3GPP Release 8 for the downlink.

COSMOTE upgrades its 3G network and successfully records unique, not only in Greece but also in the rest of the world, downlink data speeds

COSMOTE is the first company in Greece and among the first 10 networks in the world to record mobile broadband downlink data speeds up to 42.2 Mbps during tests under real network conditions.

COSMOTE, pioneering yet again in the mobile broadband sector, dynamically moves on to upgrading its 3G network. By successfully implementing the Dual Carrie operation of HSPA+ technology in the 3G network, COSMOTE managed to reach downlink speeds up to 42.2 Mbps. The tests were run on upgraded live network nodes.
The company’s continuous investment on network upgrading to ensure uninterrupted high-quality communication for all customers and the provision of advanced technology services remains top priority.

Through the implementation of advanced broadband infrastructure, COSMOTE offers its customers improved coverage at the fastest speeds available.

The Dual-Carrier operation is based on the aggregation of two carriers and is a standardized HSPA+ feature of 3GPP Rel-8 for the downlink (DC-HSDPA). Via the use of Dual-Carrier operation at the downlink, peak downlink data rates of up to 42.2Mbps can be achieved, while mobile operators with access to multiple adjacent WCDMA frequency bands can make efficient use of spectrum by operating HSPA on two adjacent 5MHz carriers.
