Telekom Austria Group Obtains an UMTS License in Belarus

Belarus-based operator Velcom, part of Telekom Austria, has been granted a nationwide seven-year UMTS licence at a price of EUR9.5 million (US$13.0 million). The operator has already started to roll out the 3G network at a rate of 10 base stations per day.

The Telekom Austria Group (VSE: TKA, OTC US: TKAGY) today has announced that its Belarusian mobile subsidiary Velcom was granted a countrywide UMTS license for a purchasing price of EUR 9.5 million. The respective spectrum has been already allocated by year end 2009. The UMTS license will be valid until August 24, 2017.

The roll out of the UMTS network is fully in progress with up to ten base stations being upgraded to UMTS a day.
