Mobicom Selects Alcatel-Lucent to Deploy 3G UMTS/HSPA Network in Mongolia

Mongolia’s Mobicom has contracted Alcatel-Lucent to upgrade its network to 3G WCDMA/HSPA technology. The Franco-American vendor will supply its advanced converged radio access network (RAN) portfolio, enabling Mobicom to sustain a rapid increase of voice and data traffic. Alcatel-Lucent’s solution also includes WCMDA/HSPA base stations (eNode Bs), radio network controller, network management system, network installation and testing. It will enable Mobicom to extend its network capacity and coverage and meet the growing demand for new broadband data services in Mongolia, as well as smoothly transform its system to LTE.

Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced it has been selected by Mobicom, the largest mobile operator in Mongolia, to deploy a 3G wireless broadband network. Alcatel-Lucent’s solution will enable Mobicom to extend its network capacity and coverage and meet the growing demand for new broadband data services in Mongolia. The contract was signed through Alcatel-Lucent’s Chinese flagship company, Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell.

Alcatel-Lucent will provide Mobicom with its advanced converged radio access network (RAN) portfolio to sustain the rapid increase of voice and data traffic and to enable Mobicom’s smooth transformation to LTE. The solution also includes 3G UMTS/HSPA base stations (eNode Bs), radio network controller, network management system and critical professional services including network installation and testing.
