The network expansion and implementation of new HSPA+ software will enhance mobile broadband peak downlink rates to up to 21.6 Mbps and boost indoor coverage. Motorola deployed Zain Kuwait’s 3G network in 2007 and subsequently carried out an HSPA upgrade to enable increased data speeds of 14.4 Mbps in mid-2008. Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced today a contract with Zain’s operation in Kuwait to expand and upgrade the operator’s 3G HSPA mobile broadband network to HSPA+, which supports increased download speeds of up to 21.6 Mbps, as well as implementing enhancements to the uplink. “Zain strives to offer its customers the fastest mobile broadband service possible and our continued collaboration with Motorola provides us with the latest solutions to facilitate the best customer experience,” said Khaled Al Hajeri, CEO, Zain in Kuwait. “We have trust in Motorola’s technology and ability to deliver on 3G, as was previously demonstrated in the rapid deployment of our first contract.” With the expansion of the network and implementation of new HSPA+ software, Zain will be able to provide customers with improved indoor coverage, as well as an enhanced mobile internet experience with improved internet browsing and faster downloading of video clips, films and music. To accommodate the improved services, Zain will offer customers devices capable of supporting data speeds of up to 21.6 Mbps. “Our HSPA+ technology enables Zain to offer customers rich mobile services, this coupled with Motorola’s continued support and renowned service capabilities will help ensure quality of service and optimal customer experience,” said Ali Amer, vice president, Middle East, Africa and Pakistan, Motorola Home & Networks Mobility.
