Telefónica has announced a strategic mobile broadband partnership with Hewlett-Packard (HP). The partners have agreed to offer a selection of HP handheld devices and notebooks with embedded 3G mobile broadband connectivity across Europe and Latin America. The move will enable Telefónica to bring mobile broadband services to a wider market, targeting both home and business users. The deal is an extension of Telefónica’s existing mobile broadband partnership with HP in Spain, where the Compaq Mini 705 netbook comes with integrated mobile broadband connectivity from Telefónica.

HP and Telefónica today announced a strategic partnership to define supplying joint mobile broadband services, as well as customer care, support, and financial services, to markets across Europe and Latin America.

Under the agreement, HP and Telefónica will collaborate to offer customers the benefit of instant, built-in broadband connection when they purchase select HP handhelds and notebook PCs, saving them the hassle of purchasing a separate 3G dongle. Customers may also benefit from a single support service if they experience problems with their PC or broadband connection.

“Our ongoing partnership with Telefónica will enable us to provide the best mobile broadband experience to our customers,” said Eric Cador, senior vice president, HP, Personal Systems Group, EMEA. “By working together, we will be simplifying the purchasing process for our customers, as they can now take their PC out of the box, turn it on and be connected.”

Vivek Dev, Director of Innovation of Telefónica S.A. added:: “The agreement with HP will clearly underline our strategy to bring the benefits of mobile broadband to a wider market and make it easier than ever for home and business users to enjoy the best mobile Internet experience.”

The compelling 'out-of-the-box' broadband experience will be available to all Telefónica operating businesses across Europe and Latin America and follows the collaboration already underway in Spain, that combines the Compaq Mini 705 with Telefónica's mobile broadband.
