Polish mobile operator Sferia has commercially launched its HSPA+ network in the 900 MHz band with the infrastructure and devices provided by Huawei. Sferia, which operates under the Aero2 brand, will now provide the fastest mobile broadband speeds in Poland, with peak downlink speeds of up to 21.6 Mbps, thanks to the 64 QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) technology and Huawei's all-IP mobile backhauling solution. The deployment of HSPA+ in the lower spectrum band will enable Sferia to expand its network footprint, while reducing the number of cell sites, which is crucial for the coverage of rural and suburban areas.

Sferia, a leading telecommunications service provider in Poland, and Huawei, a leader in providing next generation telecommunication networks, today announced the successful launch of the world's first High Speed Packet Access Evolution (HSPA+) commercial network in the 900 MHz band for Aero2. Due to its extensive penetration, the 900MHz spectrum will allow Sferia to significantly improve its network coverage while reducing energy consumption by employing less base stations.

The new HSPA+ network, with lower latency and higher speeds, will allow Sferia/Aero2 to offer improved mobile broadband services to its customers. Via its state-of-the-art 64 Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) technology, Sferia/Aero2' s HSPA+ network is able to achieve downlink peak data rates of up to 21.6 Mb/s per user and over 60 Mb/s per base station. This rapid data exchange rate is achieved via Huawei's All-IP mobile backhauling solution, which is utilized in all Sferia/Aero2 base stations.

"Using Huawei's leading HSPA+ solution in our cellular network, Aero2 is confident that we will retain our competitive position in the Polish telecommunications market," said Mr. Adam Kuriański, President of Aero2. "With the new network, our customers will be able to enjoy advanced multimedia and entertainment services in a cost-effective way."

"We are pleased to work with Sferia/Aero2 in the launch of the new HSPA+ network in Poland and we see real traction within the HSPA market," said Mr. Qin Hua, General Sales Director of Huawei Poland. "As a leading provider of end-to-end mobile broadband solutions, Huawei is committed to working closely with operators worldwide to pave the way for their mobile broadband strategies."

Sferia/Aero2's new end-to-end HSPA+ network infrastructure is built entirely of Huawei products and solutions. Through the deployment of Huawei's industry-leading SingleRAN solution in the radio access network, the smooth evolution of UMTS technology to HSPA, HSPA+, and/or LTE is ensured. As of Q3 of 2009, Huawei has deployed HSPA+ networks for 28 operators. Sferia/Aero2 launched the world's first HSPA+ network in the 900 MHz band after carrying out a successful trial in June 2009.
