Software for 3G Speed Measurement by DNA and Joikusoft

 Finnish mobile operator DNA plans to implement the JoikuMetrix quality optimisation system developed by local mobile solutions provider Joikusoft. The JoikuMetrix software enables real-time measurement of mobile broadband data transfer speeds on the operator’s WCDMA/HSPA/HSPA+ network for individual users. The software can be installed in a mobile phone and USB modem. DNA holds exclusive rights to JoikuMetrix in Finland.

DNA and Joikusoft are to introduce the JoikuMetrix quality optimisation system by Joikusoft. This system enables the measurement of data transfer speeds in the 3G network to an accuracy of bytes for individual subscriptions. The software produces a real-time report based on which the data speed can be easily ascertained.

The software was developed to give subscription-specific statistics on the data transfer speeds provided, in order to facilitate the provision of optimised trouble-free connections to customers. Measurement results facilitate the optimisation of data communications connections so that, if necessary, their performance can be enhanced.

– JoikuMetrix measures data transfer throughput, i.e. the connection speed experienced by the customer, and produces a report enabling the software main user and subscription user to ascertain the connection speed of the base station serving the subscription at the time of measurement, explains Timo Varsila, Director, Products and Content, DNA Ltd.
The software, which can be installed in a mobile phone and USB modem, a.k.a. a ‘Mokkula’, improves the transparency of mobile communications network service capacity and contributes to pinpointing development needs, for instance.

– JoikuMetrix is particularly intended for operators who wish to develop their 3G network to the best possible level in terms of customers’ user experience. Naturally, the product can also be used for other purposes, for instance as a tool in various error analysis situations, comments Tom Ojala, Chairman of the Board and one of Joikusoft’s founders.

This product by Joikusoft is available for other operators as well. However, as the developer of the product idea, DNA holds exclusive rights to it in Finland.
