Q: What does the UMTS Forum do?


A: The UMTS Forum is an open, international, non-profit making industry association. It is committed to helping its members understand and profit from the opportunities of 3G/UMTS networks and their Long Term Evolution (LTE).
The UMTS Forum participates actively in the work of the ITU, EC, ETSI, 3GPP and CEPT as well as other technical and commercial organisations globally. It also contributes to the timely licensing and deployment of mobile broadband globally through regular dialogue with regulators and responses to public consultations.

The UMTS Forum supports the interests of its membership with a range of studies, reports and other outputs. Principal focus areas include markets trends, mobile broadband services and applications, key growth markets, spectrum & regulation, technology & implementation. A strong promotional voice is maintained via a high-profile presence at conferences, seminars and workshops as well as regular briefings to the media, analysts and other stakeholders.

Q: What organisations can become members of the UMTS Forum?

A: Membership of the UMTS Forum draws together everyone with an interest in promoting the global success 3G/UMTS mobile broadband systems and their evolution.

Our membership includes – but is not exclusively limited to – mobile (and fixed) network operators, regulators/national administrations, manufacturers of semiconductors, network infrastructure and terminal equipment, developers of mobile applications and services, academic institutions, consultants/analysts and research organisations.

Q: What benefits do I receive as a member of the UMTS Forum?

A: There are two levels of membership: Full and Associate.

Full Members are entitled to:

- Vote at the General Assembly
- Nominate or be elected as a member of the Steering Group or as a Working Group Chair
- Represent the UMTS Forum externally at conferences and other industry events
- Send representatives to all Working Groups and the General Assembly
- Vote in the election of Working Group Chairs
- Access all registered working documents, minutes of meetings and written contributions by the UMTS Forum, including full access to the Private Members Area of the UMTS Forum web site.

Associate Members are entitled to:

- Send representatives to all Working Groups and the General Assembly
- Vote in the election of Working Group Chairs
- Access any registered working documents, minutes of meetings and written contributions by the UMTS Forum, including full access to the Private Members Area of the UMTS Forum web site.

Q: How much does it cost to become a member of the UMTS Forum?

A:  The membership year runs for 12 months from each January. Subscription rates for the year 2009-2010 are €11,400 for Full Members and €3,000 for Associate Members for the full year, with payments due by the end of March.

For all new Associate or Full Members that join the UMTS Forum before the end of May 2010, there will be an exemption of the one-time entrance fee of €3,900 that is normally payable on joining.

Q: My organisation is a member of the UMTS Forum. How do I log in to access the Members Area of this web site?

A: Logging in as a member allows you to access the Members Area of this site. This gives you exclusive access to a wide range of membership resources, including reports, presentations and meeting documents.

To log in via the home page you will need your email address (as registered on our membership database) plus your password.

Latest reports are available exclusively as a benefit to Full and Associate members.

In addition to this, the UMTS Forum selectively makes previously-published reports available for free public download. Public Reports, white papers and other documents are accessible via our Business Library.
