Vodafone Portugal has launched commercial HSPA+ mobile broadband service based on HSPA+ 64QAM technology. The HSPA+ coverage is currently available in Lisbon, the capital, while the operator plans to gradually roll out the HSPA+ network across Portugal. The service, which costs EUR49.90 per month with 6 GB of traffic included, offers peak download speeds of 21.6 Mbps and maximum upload speeds of up to 5.7 Mbps. The Vodafone Pen Connect K4505 is available at EUR 129.90.

Vodafone Portugal today launched its commercial offer of services based on HSPA+ 64QAM technology, effectively tripling the maximum speed of the Mobile Broadband service from 7.2 Mbps to 21.6 Mbps.
After becoming the first Portuguese operator to make data sessions in HSPA+ in February this year, Vodafone is now also taking the lead in rolling out this technology to the general public, making it the first operator in Portugal and one of the first in the world to offer speeds of 21.6 Mbps on a mobile network.

This new Mobile Broadband technology enables a real increase in the maximum download speed, which will now be 21.6 Mbps, and the maximum upload speed, which will increase from the present 1.4 Mbps to 5.7 Mbps.

In this launch phase, HSPA+ is available in the Lisbon area. It will be progressively expanded to the rest of country in the same way as with developments in earlier technologies.

These new speeds will be available under a new postpaid price plan for a monthly charge of €49.90 with a pack of 6GB of traffic included. It is also necessary to have the equipment to support HSPA+ technology, so Vodafone today also launched the Vodafone Connect Pen K4505, at a price of €129.90.

The changes that Vodafone has made to its network to support HSPA+, including a major expansion of its radio and transmission capacity, will also have positive effects for existing broadband customers on price plans with lower speeds.
Vodafone continues to be committed to being the operator with the best mobile network in Portugal and to leading the introduction of new technologies and services for Mobile Broadband. It recently launched another innovation in this area – Vita Net Light – Mobile Broadband with billing by time.

Note: The above speeds correspond to the maximum speed achievable under ideal conditions of use and depend on the technology. As with other mobile and fixed technologies, the actual speed in use may be lower.
