Avea Chooses Ericsson, Huawei and ZTE for 3G Infrastructure

Turkish mobile operator Avea, part of Turk Telecom, has selected Sweden’s Ericsson and two Chinese vendors Huawei and ZTE as the suppliers for the rollout of its 3G WCDMA/HSPA network. Under the terms of the four-year contract, Ericsson will be responsible for integration and deployment of WCDMA/HSPA radio access and packet core networks, as well as a complete mobile-backhaul solution based on microwave transmission and optical transport, in Marmara and Aegean region in Western Turkey. Huawei will roll out the 3G network in Middle Anatolian and Mediterranean Region and ZTE in Eastern, Northeastern and Southeastern Anatolia.

Avea preferred Ericsson, Huawei and ZTE to supply its third generation GSM service technology (3G) which is planned to be offered this year. Continuing its technological infrastructure investments uninterruptedly, Avea has made a leap for a great infrastructure investment of latest technology that can be updated with future technologies besides 3G in order provide the fastest and highest quality service to its subscribers.

Making a statement concerning the issue, Avea CEO Cüneyt Türktan said, "We agreed with the world's three pioneer technology leaders for 3G infrastructure. 3G infrastructure will be established by Ericsson in Marmara and Aegean region, by Huawei in Middle Anatolian and Mediterranean Region and by ZTE in Eastern, Northeastern and Southeastern Anatolia. Investments include many items such as 3G technical investments, 3G management and supervision systems, 3G spare part management, 3G training and professional supports. As Avea, we will create difference with our infrastructure as well as our innovative products and services after the launch of 3G technology."

Expressing his views on the issue, Ericsson Turkey CEO Anders Lindblad said they were proud of being preferred by Avea, noted, "This agreement of strategic importance both strengthened their long-term cooperation with Avea and also underlined Ericsson's global leadership in HSPA and mobile distribution network services. We carry out an intensive work to deliver high speed mobile broadband services to Avea customers."

Huawei Turkey Country General Manager Tang Qi Bing said following in his statement: "As Huawei, we are realizing studies for customer-centred innovations and working to provide alternative solutions and technologies to our customers to realize their potential. Proving itself several times by undersigning global successes in mobile communication technologies, we are happy that Huawei gives support to Avea as business partner."
ZTE Turkey General Manager Clara Zhou, on the other hand, noted, "We are happy that ZTE was preferred by Avea. 3G-HSPA infrastructure that we will establish will enable the most advanced technology and capacity to Avea's innovative products and services."
