Alcatel awarded by OrangeFrance contract for the delivery of 3G/UMTS multimedia services PDF Print E-mail

Alcatel today announced the signature of an exclusive contract with OrangeFrance for the turnkey delivery of the 3G/UMTS end-user services package to be implemented in the framework of the OrangeFrance live 3G test program.

Under the terms of the contract, Alcatel is in charge of the turnkey delivery and implementation of a comprehensive set of 3G mobile voice & data services on Orange's live 3G/UMTS experimental networks.

Alcatel will deliver a first set of ten 3G packaged services focusing on major service areas, including evolution from Voice to Videotelephony, Messaging/Communication, Infotainment and Gaming, as well as Personalization.

Real subscribers, representative of a national audience will be able to experience live multimedia services such as on-line gaming, live soccer events, fixed to mobile videotelephony, video mailbox, personal multimedia storage, audio/video streaming & downloading as well as Alcatel's MultiMedia Messaging applications, MMS-based video messaging or buddy presence services.

To achieve this, Alcatel is taking full responsibility for the end-to-end integration of the packaged services, and is ensuring the turnkey Hosting and technical Operation & Maintenance of the service platforms, as well as interoperability validation with various 3G mobile network infrastructure providers and 3G mobile phones suppliers.

Furthermore, building on the openness of its service-enabling platforms, Alcatel establishes itself as a reliable integrator of innovative end-to-end and open solutions through tight partnerships with major third-party application and content providers such as Virgin, Gameloft, BeTomorrow, 20th Century Fox, Dioranews, PacketVideo, Radvision, and many others.

Alcatel has proven throughout the past couple of years that it could efficiently answer all Orange evolving and specific needs, including the delivery of UMTS/3G network infrastructure.

Alcatel's and Orange's relationship relies on a "win-win" situation through several world premieres that date back to 2001and that confirm the optimum quality of 3G communications through trials and concrete results in the area of high-speed data & video transfers in full compliance with Orange's requests and 3GPP standards.

Running such innovative 3G applications and services on our live 3G networks will enable Orange to better anticipate a commercial launch by finding the right business partners, validating the end-users services adoption in a real live environment and improving the continuity with Orange's GSM/GPRS services.
