Georgia’s second largest mobile operator MagtiCom has launched its HSDPA network, as well as new mobile broadband internet tariffs. The technology will enable MagtiCom to provide its customers with faster Internet browsing plus video and music downloads. MagtiCom is the second operator to launch HSDPA behind Geocell, a unit of TeliaSonera, which launched its HSDPA platform in July 2008. Now the customers of Magti mobile internet can use the HSDPA technology based on the swiftest, the highest standard and the most affordable 3.5G mobile internet: HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) - 3.5 generation high-speed packet access technology of data transfer. At present, 3.5 generation (3.5G) internet is a step forward, just like GPRS technology was a breakthrough for the 2G GSM networks. The third generation (3G) mobile internet has allowed the customer the maximum speed to be 384 Kb/s. Now, by means of the 3.5 generation HSDPA technology the speed of mobile internet can reach the mark of 14.4 Mb/s, i.e., overtop the speed of the 3G mobile internet 37 times. In order to use the HSDPA technology the mobile phone or the modem must be HSDPA supported.
