Sweden’s leading telecoms group TeliaSonera has selected Sweden’s Ericsson and China’s Huawei as its partners for the initial rollouts of next-generation LTE (Long Term Evolution) networks in Sweden and Norway respectively. Under the terms of the contract, Ericsson will implement the network in Sweden’s capital Stockholm and will manage the network during the initial period. Both companies will also jointly cooperate on a long-term basis on the evolution of the way consumers use mobile broadband with LTE. Huawei will supply LTE base stations, core network and OSS (Operating Support System) for TeliaSonera’s LTE rollout in Norway’s capital Oslo. The Chinese vendor will also provide network design, implementation, systems integration and support services. TeliaSonera expects to commercially launch LTE services in 2010, providing the highest mobile data rates available of up to 100 Mbps. TeliaSonera’s goal is to be one of the first operators in the world to launch 4G. The 4G roll-out in Stockholm and Oslo has started for commercial launch in 2010. The evaluation of suppliers for TeliaSonera’s 4G networks in the Nordic and Baltic countries are in progress. TeliaSonera has chosen Ericsson for the initial 4G city network in Stockholm and Huawei for the initial 4G city network in Oslo. 4G will offer customers a whole new mobility experience using mobile broadband services. It will be a joy connecting to services demanding large data volumes or fast data traffic. 4G will be suitable for media and interactive services for which timing on the second is essential. “We have chosen Ericsson to deliver the initial 4G city network in Stockholm and Huawei for the initial 4G city network in Oslo. Now, TeliaSonera continues the evaluation of suppliers to deliver 4G networks in the Nordic and Baltic countries, says Lars Klasson, Senior Vice President and CTO, Mobility Services, TeliaSonera.” Source: http://www.teliasonera.com/press/pressreleases/item.page?prs.itemId=403219 |
