Singapore mobile operator StarHub has commenced a network upgrade to HSPA+ technology, with equipment provided by Huawei. During the trials, StarHub achieved peak downlink rates of 21 Mbps, which compares with its current network capacity of 14.4 Mbps, and peak uplink rates of 5.76 Mbps. With HSPA+ upgrades already completed by Australia’ Telstra and Hong Kong’s PCCW, StarHub is amongst the first operators in the world to upgrade their networks to HSPA+.

StarHub today announced that the company, together with its partner Huawei, has commenced the upgrade of its mobile broadband network to HSPA Plus (HSPA+), following a successful live demonstration of its capability to deliver 21Mbps on the downlink. This is 1.5 times higher than its current network capacity of 14.4Mbps.

This development is in addition to StarHub’s increased uplink network capacity to 5.76Mbps nationwide.
By 2Q-2009, StarHub’s mobile broadband network will be HSPA+ ready for commercial rollout nationwide.

Today, StarHub continues to boast the highest mobile broadband network capacity in Singapore, at 14.4Mbps (downlink) and 5.76Mbps (uplink).
