Mobilkom austria, has started the first Femto router pilot project in Central Europe with 35 selected residential and business customers throughout Austria. Hannes Ametsreiter, CMO mobilkom austria and Telekom Austria, said: “With the first Femto router pilot project with real customers in Central Europe, mobilkom austria’s A1 brand is offering a simple and cost-effective solution to both Austrian residential and business customers with special requirements for indoor coverage. In addition, we are providing quick and secure network indoor coverage to Austrian buildings that mobile technology can’t effectively reach due to their particular architecture.” A Femto router creates an individual indoor 3G network based on Telekom Austria’s fixed line infrastructure – the individual 3G network is connected to mobilkom austria’s 3G network via Telekom Austria’s aonSpeed or DSL fixed line network for voice and data transfer. This guarantees seamless indoor mobile coverage for both voice telephony and data transfer within buildings that have not had satisfactory network coverage to date, such as private homes, computing centers with thick concrete walls, seminar rooms in hotels, etc. Pilot Project with well-know Austrian companies The hotel chain Austria Trend Hotels & Resorts der Verkehrsbüro Group and the Vienna ARZ computing center will be among the first customers within the pilot project to use this technology with the objective to improve their indoor coverage. A small, high-performance Femto router allows for high-quality UMTS voice telephony and mobile broadband Internet via a simple connection with Telekom Austria’s DSL network. All components of the Femto router are centrally managed by mobilkom austria with no additional maintenance requirements for the customers. They are easy to operate and extremely user-friendly. For mobile data cards no changes in configuration are necessary. The Femto router is characterised by a high degree of reliability and immediate availability. The pilot project is using two different models provided by Huawei Technologies. One model is tailored to the needs of business customers and offers coverage for up to 16 mobile phones and data cards. The second model is designed for residential customers and provides coverage for up to four mobile phones and data cards. mobilkom austria’s pilot-project will run until 2Q 2009 providing valuable results for the final product offering, which will be launched onto the market in the first half of 2009. |
