QUALCOMM's MSM6200 WCDMA/GSM/GPRS Chipset Solution Supports Both European/Asian and North American Markets

QUALCOMM Incorporated today announced the availability of WCDMA test mobiles at 1900 MHz for North American test and deployment activities. These test mobiles are identical to those used for WCDMA in Europe and Asia except that the test phones' external radio frequency (RF) components are tuned to the 1900 MHz band instead of the 2100 MHz frequency used in Europe and Asia.

"These 1900 MHz WCDMA test mobiles demonstrate QUALCOMM's commitment to making our WCDMA solution available in North America," said Don Schrock, president of QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies. "Our WCDMA chipsets and system software will support operators anywhere in the world since our RF components function in all necessary UMTS frequency bands."

The MSM6200(TM) Mobile Station Modem (MSM(TM)) chipset is QUALCOMM's second-generation WCDMA solution and supports data rates of up to 384 kbps. The MSM6200 solution supports QUALCOMM's wireless Launchpad(TM) suite of applications and software, encompassing advanced multimedia, connectivity, position location, user interface and removable storage capabilities. Selected components of the Launchpad are integrated into all of QUALCOMM's MSM chipsets based on the market for which each chip is designed.
