Siemens Communications has upgraded the mobile network of Saudi Telecom with W-CDMA technology in the northern part of Saudi Arabia. In the near future, other parts of the country will also be given W-CDMA coverage and with it mobile access to data-intensive services such as video streaming and internet downloads.
Saudi Telecom was the first commercial GSM mobile operator in Saudi Arabia. Follow-ing successful W-CDMA tests with Siemens technology, the company commissioned the Siemens Communications Group with the nationwide installation of 3G technology.
"Siemens built our GSM network and has impressed us in recent years with its technol-ogy and the way it works," said Dr. Ziad Al-Otaibi, Vice President of Saudi Telecom. "We will continue to expand W-CDMA coverage in the country in the future, both geo-graphically and in terms of subscriber capacity."
