More Sabahans to Enjoy DiGi Broadband with New Service Availability in Labuan
DiGi has launched 3G services in Labuan, East Malaysia, covering 65% of populated areas of the island. Labuan is DiGi’s fifth market in Sabah to receive expanded 3G coverage. As deman for data usage grows among Sabahans, DiGi intends to bring 3G services to three new areas in the Sabah stage, mainly Papar, Tuaran and Keningau, by the end of 2011. DiGi currently has 46% population coverage in Sabah, with 3G services also available in Kota Kinabalu, Lahad Datu, Tawau, and Sandakan.

Fujitsu and NTT DoCoMo have launched a compact water-resistant smartphone, the docomo F-12C, designed for both convenience and functionality. The HSPA 14.4 Mbps device features "human-centric technology" for improved readability, audibility and ease of use. Designed with luxury luggage brand GLOBE-TROTTER, the smartphone runs Android OS 2.3 and boasts a lightweight, compact body.
Clearwire Announces Intent to Add LTE to Its Network to Accelerate Wholesale Business
Clearwire has confirmed its LTE launch plans, leveraging its spectrum resources and all-IP network to meet long-term mobile broadband demand. Initial LTE rollout will target high-demand areas of current mobile broadband markets. The US operator plans to deploy Time Division Duplex (TDD) LTE technology in its existing 2.5 GHz spectrum. Clearwire will deliver significant capital savings by reusing its all-IP network architecture and upgrading base station radios and core network elements.

Research In Motion (RIM) has unveiled five new BlackBerry smartphones. RIM, in conjunction with more than 225 carriers and distribution partners around the world, is rolling out two new BlackBerry Bold models and three new BlackBerry Torch models. All devices run the latest BlackBerry 7 OS that features an advanced WebKit browser, optimised zooming, improved graphics, voice-activated search and an integrated suite of phone, email, messaging and social applications. An updated BlackBerry Messenger and improved social networking apps also feature in the new OS.

Sierra Wireless First to Offer Certified LTE Modules on Both Major U.S. LTE networks
The Sierra Wireless AirPrime MC7700 and AirPrime MC7750 embedded wireless modules have been granted technical approvals for AT&T’s and Verizon Wireless’ LTE networks, clearing the way for shipments to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Embedded modules that have achieved operator technical approval give OEMs greater confidence that devices will pass network certification tests.
Verizon Wireless Introduces First Netbook to Use Verizon’s LTE Network
Verizon Wireless has unveiled the Compaq Mini CQ10-688nr netbook with an embedded LTE modem. Customers can expect average downlink speeds of 5-12 Mbps and uplink speeds of 2-5 Mbps in LTE coverage areas. Aimed at business travellers, the device is available for US$449.99 on a new two-year contract. The US operator offers a choice of three mobile broadband plans: US$30 per month with 2 GB data allowance, US$50 per month with 5 GB data allowance and US$80 per month with 10 GB data allowance.
Vodafone Spain Secures Spectrum to Deliver New Services for Customers
The Spanish Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade has awarded LTE spectrum in the 800 MHz and 2.6 GHz bands to Telefónica, Orange and Vodafone, raising EUR1.65 million. Vodafone paid EUR518 million for 20 MHz in the 800 MHz band and 40 MHz in the 2.6 GHz band. The operator was allowed by the regulator to re-farm some of its 900 MHz GSM spectrum for LTE services in rural areas. Its 800 MHz allocation will become available after digital switchover has been completed in Spain in 2014. Telefónica won five frequency blocks in the 800 MHz, 900 MHz and 2.6 GHz spectrum bands for EUR668.3 million, while Orange paid EUR437 million for spectrum in the 800 MHz and 2.6 GHz bands.

Supporting TDD LTE technology, the E392 remains compatible with GSM/WCDMA/CDMA networks, automatically switching between different networks to ensure optimal internet connectivity. The Huawei E392 offers ultra-speed internet connectivity with peak downlink speeds of up to 100 Mbps, accelerating the development of the LTE TDD ecosystem.
T-Mobile Hungary Has Connected the HSPA+ Mobile Internet Service at 300 Stations - 1 GB Additional Monthly Data Volume from August 1 for All RelaxNet Subscribers
T-Mobile Hungary has upgraded 300 locations to HSPA+ technology which is capable of providing peak downlink rates of up to 21 Mbps. The operator will continue its network modernisation in the third quarter of this year. To coincide with the network upgrade, T-Mobile Hungary has launched new promotional mobile broadband offers, aiming its ‘Net&Roll M’ package with 16 GB of data and the Net&Roll L package with 26 GB of data at heavy mobile internet users. In addition, RelaxNet subscribers get 1 GB of extra monthly data.
Softbank Mobile and Ericsson Demonstrate New LTE Feature to Improve Cell-Edge Data Rate
Sofbank Mobile and Ericsson have conducted a field demonstration of LTE cooperative transmission control and coordinated scheduling. As a new feature in LTE radio base stations, it significantly improves cell-edge user performance by a factor of three. The trial network was located in Kumagaya, Saitama Prefecture, Japan, providing a combination of urban, suburban and rural radio environments.
