ZTE to Deliver World’s First LTE TDD/FDD Dual-Mode Infrastructure Equipment to Hi3G
Hi3G, part of Hutchison Whampoa, has awarded an LTE TDD/FDD contract to ZTE. The Scandinavian operator will deploy its LTE dual-mode TDD/FDD network in Sweden and Denmark during 2011, using 900 MHz and 2.1 GHz frequency bands. The Chinese vendor will supply equipment based on its Uni-RAN Software Defined Radio (SDR) technology, which will enable Hi3G to support a variety of mobile standards and frequency bands. Hi3G owns 50 MHz of TDD spectrum in Sweden and 25 MHz in Denmark.
DOVADO Routers Selected by Tele2 Sweden
Tele2 Sweden is offering the DOVADO 3GN router together with its mobile broadband subscriptions. The 3GN router features the Mobile Internet Auto-Configuration Solution, which enables an automatic set-up. By connecting a USB modem to the router, the DOVADO 3GN creates a WiFi zone where computers, smartphones, gaming consoles, and other devices can share the same mobile broadband connection.
Three UK Announces New Premium Dongle
3 UK has launched a new premium dongle, the Huawei E367, which provides improved performance and offers up to 40% faster browsing. The USB device supports HSPA+ technology, enabling peak downlink speeds of up to 21 Mbps. The Huawei E367 is available for pre-paid users for GBP69.99 (US$112), or on a rolling one-month contract for a one-off payment of GBP49.99, plus GBP15.99 per month with 5 GB data allowance, or on a 24-month contract, without an upfront charge, with 15GB data cap for GBP18.03 per month.
Fujitsu Selects Sierra Wireless for 3G Notebook Connectivity
Fujitsu has selected Sierra Wireless to provide 3G mobile broadband connectivity for several new models in its LIFEBOOK series of notebooks and tablets. New Sierra Wireless AirPrime MC8305 and MC8355 embedded modules will be integrated into Fujitsu LIFEBOOK notebook and tablet computers. The AirPrime MC8305 is a single-mode HSPA module and the AirPrime MC8355 is a dual-mode version, offering support for both HSPA and CDMA networks. Both modules offer download speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps and upload rates of up to 5.76 Mbps.
Chinese Operators Select Alcatel-Lucent to Enhance Mobile Network Intelligence
Alcatel-Lucent has been selected by Jiangsu Mobile, a subsidiary of China Mobile, and Ningxia Telecom, a unit of China Telecom, to deploy its 9900 Wireless Network Guardian (WNG) solution in the operators’ 3G network and operations centres. By providing advanced wireless data analytics, Alcatel-Lucent will enable the two Chinese operators to gain insight into the performance of their subscriber devices, applications and networks in real time. The information can be then used to improve the customer experience of mobile broadband data services.
Idea Cellular Rings in the 'Power of 3G'
Indian operator Idea Cellular has launched its HSPA+ service, branded Gold Standard. The operator plans a progressive national rollout of the service, bringing coverage to 200 towns by April 2011 and 4,000 towns by 2012. The company has revealed that 10% of its more than 86 million subscribers currently use 3G-enabled handsets. To encourage 3G data usage, Idea has also introduced a time-based billing plan, with no caps on the volume of data.
Nokia Siemens Networks Provides 7,000 LTE Base Stations to Telecom Italia
Following joint LTE trials in the Turin region, Telecom Italia has chosen Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) for its network modernisation project, using the 900-1800 MHz and 2100 MHz frequency bands. NSN will supply 7,000 LTE single Radio Access Network Flexi Multiradio base stations, allowing smooth implementation of LTE in the 2.6 GHz and 800 MHz bands. The LTE network will be deployed in several of Italy’s most economically developed regions, including Veneto, Trentino Alto Adige, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Emilia Romagna, Marche and Umbria.
Nokia Siemens Networks to Participate in Large Scale China TD-LTE Trial
Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) has been selected by China Mobile to provide network, OSS and services for a large-scale TD-LTE field trial in Hangzhou. The vendor will supply 2.3 GHz/2.6 GHz TD-LTE equipment, professional services and management software as part of the trial. The contract has been approved by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), allowing NSN to cooperate with China Mobile to accelerate network construction, equipment installation and network optimisation.
