NTT DOCOMO to Unveil First Tablets for LTE Service
NTT DOCOMO has unveiled two LTE tablets for its Xi service, which will be marketed under a new "DOCOMO Tablet" device series. The Japanese operator will introduce the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in early October, while the Fujitsu Arrows Tab will launch in mid October. Running Android 3.2, both tablets feature 10.1-inch displays and are powered by dual core CPUs. DOCOMO will also offer four new broadband applications, including the popular Hulu and Qik Video services.
Mobistar Renews its Mobile Network: Greater Coverage, Lower Consumption and Future-proof Technology
Mobistar has announced plans to invest EUR36 million in its mobile network upgrade project between now and 2013. The Belgian operator will replace 497 antennas during 2011, with the rest of the network to follow in 2012 and the first half of 2013. The new LTE-ready system will be deployed by Huawei.
ZTE, Telkom Kenya-Orange Announce Nation’s Fastest Commercial HSPA+ Network
ZTE has deployed an HSPA+ network for Telkom Kenya-Orange in Nairobi. As part of the agreement, ZTE provided the Kenyan operator with Uni-RAN-based all IP solutions. The platform was then used to build a unified 2G/3G mobile network. The newly deployed network enables peak downlink rates of up to 21 Mbps.
HTC Unveils HTC TITAN and HTC Radar Smartphones
HTC has launched two new HSPA smartphones, HTC TITAN and HTC Radar, both running on the Windows Phone 7.5 operating system. They feature advanced photography, multimedia and social capabilities, as well the HTC Watch application with a library of premium movies and TV shows. The HTC TITAN has a 4.7-inch cinematic LCD display, 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.5 GHz processor for efficient multitasking. The HTC Radar comes with the People Hub social media application. Both devices will initially be available from October 2011 in Europe and Asia.

LightSquared and Advanta Technologies Announce Long-Term 4G-LTE Wholesale Agreement Edit www.lightsquared.com LightSquared has signed a multi-year wholesale agreement with Advanta Technologies, a Texas-based provider of enterprise voice, video and data solutions. The deal will enable Advanta Technologies to offer its customers mobile broadband devices, applications and services running on LightSquared's LTE network.
Verizon Wireless and Motorola Raise the Bar with DROID BIONIC by Motorola
Motorola Mobility has unveiled the DROID BIONIC, its first LTE smartphone which is exclusively available from Verizon Wireless. Running Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread, DROID BIONIC features a dual-core 1 GHz processor, 1 GB RAM, a 4.3-inch qHD display and 8-megapixel autofocus camera. Motorola's ZumoCast application enables remote access the customers' home computers. The device will be available from Verizon Wireless for US$299.99 on a two-year contract.
Option and Autonet Mobile Enter Strategic Partnership to Deliver the 1st Mobile Applications Platform for Cars
Option has invested US$1.5 million in Autonet Mobile to deliver the first mobile IP based Telematics Control Unit (TCU) for the automotive market. The partnership will use Option's wireless modules and software to provide in-car connectivity, while leveraging Autonet Mobile technology and TCU design. It will enable automotive manufacturers to connect vehicles to mobile broadband networks and deliver new features enabling pervasive cloud computing, mobile applications and fleet telematics.
GO Makes Multi-million Investment in Mobile Network
GO has selected Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) to modernise its existing GSM and 3G radio infrastructure. NSN will provide the new radio and all-IP mobile backhaul network and related services to the Maltese integrated services provider. In addition to Flexi Multiradio Base Stations, the vendor will add new sites to expand GO's coverage and improve network performance. GO will also deploy NSN's NetAct network management system.
SaskTel to Launch LTE, the Next evolution of Wireless Technology
SaskTel plans to deploy its LTE network in 2012. In the first phase, the Canadian operator will roll out LTE services to Regina and Saskatoon during the third quarter of 2012. The new technology will be deployed in urban and rural areas starting in 2013. The initial LTE smartphones will be compatible with the operator's existing HSPA+ network, enabling a seamless transmission of voice over HSPA+ network and data over LTE until LTE is set up for both voice and data from 2013.
