Si.mobil Is Building the State-of-the-Art Mobile Network in Koroška and Podravska Regions
Si.mobil has announced plans to expand HSPA+ coverage to the Koroska and Podravska region. The Slovenian operator has been deploying the new infrastructure using refarmed 900 MHz spectrum. Si.mobil expects to complete its national network upgrade by the end of October, enabling peak downlink speeds of up to 21Mbps.


Alcatel-Lucent Highlights Progress Towards Next-generation Wireless Broadband Services with Three-way Trans-Pacific Video Call Using lightRadio
Alcatel-Lucent and China Mobile have demonstrated video calling using LTE technology. The first mobile broadband video call over China Mobile's trial TD-LTE network connected a fixed location and a car in Shanghai with Alcatel-Lucent offices in New Jersey. The demonstration showcased Alcatel-Lucent's lightRadio solution.

Nokia Launches Three No-compromise Mass-Market Smartphones Powered by Symbian Belle Nokia has launched three mass-market HSPA smartphones, the Nokia 700, Nokia 701 and Nokia 600. The Nokia 700 is the vendor's most compact smartphone in its Symbian range, featuring a 1 GHz processor, 3.2 inch AMOLED screen ClearBlack display, 2 GB internal memory, HD video capture and 5-megapixel camera. The Nokia 701 model features a 3.5-inch ClearBlack display, 1 GHz processor and 8-megapixel camera with dual LED flash. The Nokia 600 has a 1 GHz processor, 5-megapixel full focus camera with LED flash and HD video capture, plus 2 GB of internal memory, built-in FM radio antenna and powerful built-in loudspeaker to enjoy music apps.

Samsung Galaxy W, Coming Soon to Three UK
Three UK is to offer the new Samsung Galaxy W, a smaller sibling of the Galaxy SII. Running the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) operating system, the slim smartphone features a 1.4 GHz processor, a 3.7-inch Super LCD screen and a 5-megapixel camera. It supports HSPA technology, enabling peak downlink rates of up to 14.4 Mbps.

LightSquared and InterGlobe Communications Sign Multi-Year LTE Wholesale Agreement
LightSquared has forged a multi-year MVNO agreement with InterGlobe Communications, an integrated service provider serving businesses in the Mid-Atlantic region. Under the terms of the deal, InterGlobe, a Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC), will become a wholesale customer on LightSquared's LTE network. The contract enables InterGlobe to add LTE mobile broadband and satellite services to its range of business communications solutions that include VoIP, high-speed Internet, video teleconferencing and IP telephony.

Smart Handset HUAWEI IDEOS X1 Exclusively Offered by O2
Telefonica Czech Republic has added the Huawei IDEOS X1 smartphone to its handset lineup. The Android device will be available exclusively from O2 Czech Republic until 8 September. It retails at the non-subsidised price of CZK2,696 (US$160) or at CZK1 when combined with a mobile broadband contract.

Verizon Wireless Brings Its 4G LTE Network to Fargo, North Dakota and Moorhead, Minnesota On 15th September
Verizon Wireless has introduced LTE services in additional 15 markets and expanded its LTE network to 10 further cities. The US operator has provided LTE coverage to more than 160 million people, representing more than half of the US population, in less than eight months. The company expects to bring its LTE network to more than 185 million Americans by the end of 2011. Verizon Wireless currently offers 10 LTE devices, including smartphones, tablets, notebooks/netbooks, hotspots and USB modems.

Huawei Appointed by Genius Brand to Deploy LTE Network in Hong Kong
Genius Brand, a joint venture between Hutchison Telephone Company Limited (HTCL) and Hong Kong Telecommunications (HKT), has selected Huawei for the deployment of its LTE network in Hong Kong. Huawei has also signed separate agreements with HTCL and HKT respectively on the evolution of their core networks to the Evolved Packet Core (EPC) specification, in addition to providing solutions for network resources management and end-to-end user experience QoE management.
