AT&T Building Most Advanced Mobile Broadband Experience in Austin, Announces 2011 Network Upgrade Plans
AT&T has announced network improvement plans in an initiative to improve HSPA+ speeds around the Austin area. The US operator will deploy enhanced backhaul connections at approximately 250 cell sites, while replacing more than 1,300 antennas at more than 200 cell sites. The development is set to increase mobile broadband capacity and improve the quality of services.The wireless network enhancement plans are part of AT&T’s US$19-billion investment in its wireless and fixed networks and other capital projects in 2011.

DOVADO Delivers LTE-Ready Residential Router
DOVADO has software upgraded its product portfolio to support LTE USB modems, beginning with the Huawei E398 which is already available to LTE operators in Europe. The firmware update will allow the users of its existing DOVADO 4GR and 3GN routers to swiftly migrate onto LTE networks. The new solution will also enable mobile operators to compete with fixed broadband services by delivering competitive connection speeds.

ZTE Launches 3G HSPA+ Dual Carrier USB Modem in Greece
ZTE and COSMOTE have launched HSPA+ Dual Carrier USB modem in Greece. The MF680 supports downlink rates of up to 42 Mbps and uplink rates of up to 5.76 Mbps, enabled by HSPA+ Dual Carrier technology. The modem is equipped with a USB slider connector and can also accept a MicroSD card with data storage of up to 32 GB.
Samsung Launches Latest Device in the Galaxy Family
Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Pro smartphone, packed with entertainment and social media applications. Powered by the Android 2.2 “Froyo” operating system, the device features Samsung’s integrated Social Hub Premium platform that gives one-touch access to emails, instant messages and social networking accounts. The Galaxy Pro’s dual-input interface combines a touch-screen with a full QWERTY keyboard. Supporting HSDPA connectivity at up to 7.2 Mbps, the Galaxy Pro will be available during the second quarter in the UK, followed by other European countries, Middle East, South East Asia and India
Fujitsu Selects Telefónica as its Strategic Partner for Mobile Services in Europe
Fujitsu and Telefónica have signed an outsourcing deal for the provision and management of mobile voice and data services across 15 countries in Europe. The Spanish telecoms group will provide the Japanese ICT supplier with 30,000 connections managed through Telefónica’s Central Services. The contract is worth more than EUR30 million over four years.

Assignment of the Available Radio Spectrum in the 2.3 GHz Band for Provision of Broadband Wireless Access Services Statement of the Telecommunications Authority
Hong Kong telecoms regulator (Ofta) has decided to auction 90 MHz of spectrum in the 2.3 GHz band and 105 MHz in the 2.5/2.6 MHz band in the second half of 2011. The 15 MHz of radio spectrum in the 2.5/2.6 GHz bands and 90 MHz of radio spectrum in the 2.3 GHz band were left over from the 2009 auction. New entrants and incumbent operators may participate in the new auction. Also, a spectrum cap of 30 MHz per bidder will be imposed.

Zain Jordan Launches High Speed Mobile Broadband Internet Service Covering All of the Kingdom
Zain Jordan has upgraded its network to HSPA+ technology, backed by JOD120 million (US$169 million) investment in the rollout of 1,000 base stations across the country. The service supports peak downlink rate of up to 21 Mbps and covers 97% of the population of Jordan. The operator also expects that availability of its HSPA+ network in remote areas will contribute to the increase in the country’s internet penetration.

The 800 MHz Auction is Closed - Three Bidders Won Licences
Swedish telecoms regulator PTS has named the country’s three existing mobile operators, TeliaSonera, Net4Mobility and HI3G Access (3 Sweden), as winners of the tender for the 800 MHz spectrum. The auction has raised a total of SEK2.054 billion (US$321 million). TeliaSonera bid SEK854 million to secure a 25-year licence of 2x10 MHz and 3 Sweden received two frequency blocks for SEK431 million. Net4Mobility, the joint venture between Tele2 Sweden and Telenor, won 2x10 MHz for a total of SEK769 million, of which SEK300 million will be used to provide broadband to households in poorly-covered areas.
