DOCOMO Unveils Three New Smart Mobile Devices for Japanese Market
NTT DOCOMO has launched three new 3G mobile broadband devices: the MEDIAS N-04C and Xperia arc SO-01C smartphones and Optimus Pad L-06C tablet. With a thickness of just 7.7 mm, the MEDIAS N-04C offers popular apps including mobile wallet and digital terrestrial TV. The HSPDA Xperia arc SO-01C runs Android 2.3 and is capable of maximum downlink speed of 14 Mbps. The Optimus Pad L-06C runs Android 3.0 and features a high-resolution 8.9-inch display and dynamic stereo speakers. Both devices will be available in Japan in March.

Huawei's SingleRAN Incorporates GSM, UMTS and LTE as Three Features
Huawei has unveiled its SingleRAN solution that operators maximize their core assets – including sites, spectrum, users, staff and pipeline – by transforming various technical modes into SingleRAN features. The solution adopts integrated BTS (base transceiver station), BSC (base station controller), OSS (operating support system) and site solutions to drive the three radio features, including LTE, within a single network.
Motorola Solutions and Verizon Wireless Enter Alliance to Bring LTE Advantages to Public Safety Customers across the United States
Motorola Solutions and Verizon Wireless have joined forces to create an advanced wireless communication solution aimed at the US public safety sector. The solution allows safety agencies to access the operator’s LTE network and media-rich applications, complementing their own mission-critical core platforms. The public safety sector will be able to leverage the increased capacity and coverage of Verizon Wireless’ LTE technology
Option and KOBIL Showcase Unique 3G Security Solution at CeBIT
Option and KOBIL Systems plan to demonstrate their new security solution, mIDentity 3G, at CeBIT next month.  The mIDentity 3G is a result of the strategic partnership formed in 2010 aimed at combining KOBIL's mIDentity security solution with Option's 3G modem and connectivity software. The USB device allows highly secure deployment of and access to secure portal, virtual desktop and document signing solutions for banks, governments and enterprises. Commercial pilot projects will be launched during Q2 2011.
Rohde & Schwarz and Nomor Research Provide Real-world, Cost-efficient LTE base Station Receiver Test Solutions
Rohde & Schwarz and Nomor Research have developed a real-time solution for generating uplink inter-cell interference signals required for testing LTE networks without having to deploy a large number of base stations. Nomor Research’s system-level simulation can reproduce this interference as experienced by a multi-cell LTE base station, which is then physically generated by signal generators from Rohde & Schwarz.

LightSquared Announces Additional Financing
LightSquared has secured a US$586 million loan from UBS and JP Morgan, which will be used to fund the deployment of its wholesale LTE network. The integrated wireless broadband and satellite operator expects to tap into growing demand for mobile broadband capacity from businesses, consumers, government and public safety users. LightSquared’s business model is based on strategic alliances with a wide variety of retail partners to sell services based on its integrated terrestrial and satellite network.

Verizon Wireless Selects Tektronix Communications to Monitor Nationwide Next-Generation LTE NetworkVerizon Wireless has selected Tektronix Communications’ Iris product portfolio to support the monitoring of the US operator’s LTE network and service performance. The Iris solution provides multiple organizations at a service provider with real-time and historical information available for service troubleshooting and performance monitoring needs.

Winnipeggers Get a Taste of Freedom and Extreme Wireless Speeds with TELUS' HSPA+ Network
TELUS has expanded the coverage of its HSPA+ network to Winnipeg, the capital of Manitoba, offering peak downlink speeds of up to 21 Mbps. The Canadian operator plans to carry out a further upgrade in Winnipeg to HSPA+ Dual Carriage technology, capable of delivering peak rates of up to 42 Mbps. TELUS currently offers HSPA+ access to more than 60% of the population in the region. Over the next two years TELUS will expand its coverage to include other Manitoba cities.
ZTE Ranked Third Globally Among LTE Infrastructure Vendors
ZTE has been named as one of the top three LTE infrastructure vendors globally, according to the OVC Market Tracker report by Open Vista Consulting. The Chinese vendor has achieved outstanding performance in the four categories of industrial contribution, market competitiveness, product competitiveness and solution competitiveness. ZTE accounted for 21% of the LTE market.
Auction of Radio Spectrum in the 850 MHz, 900 MHz and 2 GHz Bands for Provision of Public Mobile Telecommunications Services – Qualified Bidder Notice
Hong Kong’s Telecommunications Authority has announced qualified bidders in the upcoming auction for 850 MHz, 900 MHz and 2 GHz frequency bands. The operators that have been approved by the regulator to participate in the bidding stage are China Mobile, CSL, Hong Kong Broadband Network, HKT, Hutchison and SmarTone-Vodafone.
Samsung Selects ST-Ericsson Solution for Super-Fast Smartphone
Samsung has launched its HSPA+ smartphone, the Galaxy S 4G, using ST-Ericsson’s 21 Mbps modem. The device, which is available exclusively from T-Mobile USA, is capable of theoretical peak download speeds of up to 21 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 5.76 Mbps. ST-Ericsson’s Thor M5720 modem supports 64-QAM technology, enabling mobile operators to make more efficient use of their spectrum and transfer more data over the air.
